WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS

Radiological Interpretation - SORRY FULLY BOOKED as at 5 October

A variety of diagnostic modalities are used by clinicians in the health care environment. Patients with musculoskeletal conditions are most commonly exposed to x-rays. Although fracture management is the primary indication, hereditary, congenital, development, infections, inflammatory, neoplastic, vascular, metabolic, neurogenic and degenerative disorders can also be evaluated with an x-ray. This workshop will assist participants to gain working knowledge and understanding of the principles and rules that aid in the correct interpretation of an x-ray.
Aims: To develop a systematic approach to x-ray interpretation
Practical experience in interpretation of x-rays

Suturing
To introduce the Orthopaedic Theatre Nursing staff at ANZONA to the fundamental principles and techniques required to perform skin suturing. This course will provide the participants with an opportunity to review and practice these techniques in a facilitated environment.

Casting
Casting is a satisfying and rewarding skill, integral to the care of people with musculoskeletal disorders. Casts can quickly relieve pain and distress and make an immediate difference to an individual’s quality of life. However, if incorrectly applied can dramatically change the outcome of a person’s orthopaedic condition, management and long term functional abilities. This workshop will provide the participants with basic knowledge and principles of casting using synthetic material for a specific type of cast.
Session 1 – Upper Limb Cast – 11am
Practical ‘hands-on’ application of a “Colles’ Fracture” Cast.
Session 2 – Lower limb Below Knee Trauma Backslab – 11.45am SORRY FULLY BOOKED as at 12 October
Practical application of a below knee trauma slab.

Musculoskeletal Assessment
The musculoskeletal system allows the body to perform complex and precise movements. Assessment provides the basic foundation upon which nursing care is planned. The musculoskeletal assessment of an orthopaedic patient is an ongoing process where information collected must be analysed and interpreted to adjust nursing care accordingly. In the format of a practical and interactive workshop participants can refresh, update and learn more on musculoskeletal assessment. The session will assess the upper and lower limbs, commencing with the fundamentals underpinning musculoskeletal assessment and develop from there.

Hip Fixation
Synthes Australia Pty Ltd is pleased to offer you a Hands-On Workshop facilitated by an experience Synthes Sales Representative. This workshop is not meant to replace the large realm of knowledge you may gain by attending an actual operation. But, if you’re looking for a chance to ask numerous questions and actually perform the “surgery” yourself, then please join us for our Dynamic Hip Screw Hands-On Workshop.
