The Australian Society of Exploration Geophysicists (ASEG) and Petroleum Exploration Society of Australia (PESA) invite you to participate in the 20th International Geophysical Conference and Exhibition to be held in Adelaide, South Australia during 22-25 February 2009.

The conference theme reflects not only changes in the natural environment but also the challenges facing the geoscientific community as we strive to operate with ever changing expectations and targets. The collaboration of two of Australia’s premier geoscientific bodies promises to make this conference a stand out forum for resource exploration geophysics community.

The Host Bodies
The Australian Society of Exploration Geophysicists (ASEG) is a non-profit society founded in 1970. The society currently has over 1,400 members and aims to:
  • promote the science of geophysics and specifically exploration geophysics, throughout Australia
  • foster fellowship and co-operation between geophysicists to encourage closer understanding and co-operation with other earth scientists
  • assist in the design and teaching of courses in geophysics and to sponsor education.
The Petroleum Exploration Society of Australia (PESA) is also a non-profit association of individuals involved in the exploration of oil and gas. The purpose and objectives of PESA are:
  • promote professional and technical aspects of the upstream petroleum industry throughout Australia by providing a medium for gathering individuals interested in oil and gas exploration
  • present views and discuss technical and professional matters relating to the upstream petoleum industry
  • foster and provide continuing education for the benefit of members
  • maintain a high standard of professional conduct on the part of its members


It is intended that the conference will receive extensive overseas promotion through its related societies, the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers and theSociety of Exploration Geophysicists Japan.Who will be there? In line with recent conferences, the 2009 Conference & Exhibition is expected to attract approximately 700 delegates from a variety of geophysical fields and a range of countries.
